Default Sounds like road noise

My Escort is making a funny noise. At first I thought it was just road noise from the tyres, but, the noise always stays the same, no matter on what surface I'm driving! Thus, it cannot be noise from the tyres. The noise also doesn't get agrevated when turning, and I think it comes from the rear of the car(though it's hard to say). It sounds like the road noise you get when driving on a concrete highway. And is ever present from 50km/h to about 140km/h.
I fear it might be a wheel bearing. Does any one have an idea on what might be causing the noise?

Also, the car shudders under heavy breaking. Even after replacing the front disks and pads.
When I pull the handbreak while moving, the car really goes stupid(almost feels like riding an off ballance donkey cart).
Is this caused by a worped drum, or a shot shock perhaps?
And does breaking distribute over the front and rear under heavy breaking?

i would say wheel bearing, mine done the exact as you stated mate, not that difficult to do. Only around 15 quid for a wheel bearing.
