Default either or ?

hi folks im a newbie here and youve guessed it i have a problem, ive had my mk5a cabby since last summer but have hardly used it due to lack of time and problem with it.When driving it goes ok for a bit then when you either give it too much gas or not enough it chugs like its running out of petrol, ive seen two mechanics one said throtle response sensor and the other said no because when its idling and you rev it up it doesnt chug then, he says its the map sensor, any help would be appreciated.
