Question I've found a crack!!

While cleaning up my bolck tonight for the imminent rebuild i noticed a hairline crack.
Now i know it's quite common for these blocks to crack around the long studs but just to be sure i thought id take a few pics and see what the engine builders on here thought

The engine was running great prior to removal from the previous owners car but has been sat now for a couple of years (hence the full strip down)

Now it's pretty hard to see so i have stuck a couple of pencil arrows towards it.

What do you recon???

Oh its a small turbo Escos block.

I don't know if I am more shocked at the crack, or the fact you've actually started rebuilding the engine at last..... Good luck with it mate, i know it'll be a proper machine when your done with it.

Is it def a crack? Not a scratch. I'd take the paint of at the side of the block with strippers (not abrasive's) and see how big it actually is. Good Luck either way.

I would have it checked properly why waste your money rebuilding if the block is cracked?

See if you can get hold of some flaw detector spray, it comes in 3 aerosol tins a solvent cleaner a dye and a revealer, we used to use it on small fab work we did at work, will show it up clearly if it is a crack or not.
