Charging fault on RS1800
hi ya guys was wondering if you could help me out,got a rs1800 had problems with the battery not holding charge also could hear a noise coming from the alternator so replaced the alternator with a brand new 1.
once fitted i tested it but its not charging the battery as its only reading just under 12v even when reving the car.
have checked the connections and there all fine, checked for continuity in the main red wire which is ok,but then checked the blue wire and this isnt connected to anything the other end its just got tape wrapped around it.
where should this go to,the starter?
if this is the fault then why has it been fine before?
also the battery light doesnt show up on the dash even with just the ignition lights on

The blue wire you mention goes onto the "IND" terminal of the alternator, the wire is LIVE when the ignition is turned on, the warning bulb one side is live the other side going to the alt(IND) is negative when not charging, and changes to positive once charging, causing the bulb to go out.
The alt will kick in if given enough revs even without the bulb working, due to the stray lecky produced all the time in the alt once rotating.
Once kicked in it should show full charge just after starting ie at least 12.8, but nearer 13.4.
