My idle control valve is messing about on a Nissan Almera GTI I bought last week as my work car and to take the dogs out and about in. It was idling at 1,700rpm. I have done the timing, new HT leads, plugs, vac pipes checked and still idle'd high....... so I took the plug off the ICV to see what happened.......revs went from 1,700 to 900rpm, very happy!! Thing is........is it ok to drive about without an idle control valve plugged in, could there be any dangers to engine, more petrol used, less performance etc??

 

Should be completly fine , had an erractic icv on me cossy an used to just leave that disconnected an never had any probs...

as said, no major issues, however when you load up the car electronics it may cause a very rough idle or potentially a stall, same when starting from cold.
disconnecting should be fine for the economy and fuel though, just take longer to warm up if in traffic a lot, if it does cause running headaches, get a new one then.

As said will not cause any probs other than those stated, it must have something that is mechanically preventing the throttle from closing fully to be still running.
You should try cleaning the iscv with carb cleaner, often works, a new one may not cure it, if it being told to be open that amount by the ecu, maybe a diff cts, but 1700 is way too high for efi even when cold.
