3dr clocks problem

my 3dr has a problem as soon as you turn the ing on the rev counter shoots up to 8k and stays there till you turn it off ? any ideas ??

It's knackered!!, try disconnecting the coil connections(low tension) and see what happens, otherwise it looks like it has died.
