Default Mk 5 XR3i Cabby Clock Removal Problem

Hi guys, doing up an 92 XR3i Cabby, removing the clocks has got me stumped. The cowling is removed, the clocks are part way out, i have already fed the speedo cable through as far as it will go but the cable wont release and i dont want to break or snap anything. The cable connection twists inside the clocks both ways but the Haynes manual dont say what you have to do to remove the cable with any clear instructions. Have googled but not seen any answers with success.

Do i have to do anything with the plastic thing attatched to the end?

Any help greatly appreciated, many thanx.

Shortie
