Is a xr4x4 front cross member the same as a 4x4 cossie cross member?

I'm having trouble fitting the 24v cossie engine, the front diff is hitting the cross member not allowing the engine to line up on the mounts. please help.

 

engine first ..... then diff, it doesn't seem to fit all in one from above......... normally you drop the cross member , fit the engine etc to it then raise it up to the car.......

 

thanx for the reply. i'll try removing the diff and then drop engine in but it really doesn't look like it will fit. theirs louds of room on the nearside and bugger all room on the offside.

 

forgot to mention that i had to remove the steering rack aswell as it was hitting that first

 

i lowerd the engine in and then bolted the crossmember to the engine then the whole rig to the chassis. then bolted the gearbox on, then the diff and drive shaft and then the steering rack.

hi, ive tried taking the subframe off and fitting it to the engine and i can get the mounts to fit to the engine brackets but the subframe is pushing on the sump. i cant get the diff back on because 1 of the bolt holes that it bolts to is now on the wrong side of the subframe and the frames in the way anyway?
heres the part numbers;
subframe= v90bb-5019-ac
o/s mounting bracket= 83tf 6031 aa
n/s mounting bracket= 83tf 6030 ca
sump= 15 5550 90/2295 (not sure if thats the right number)

Hello mate, the reason why its not fitting is because its sounds like your using the wrong sub-frame, you need to be using a V6 4x4 one as its different to a 4cyl one.

cheers for the reply mate, thats the answer i was hoping for. was beginning to think it wouldnt fit at all. the shell is a proper sapphire cosworth 4x4 so ill try and source a subframe in the morning and ill let you know. thanx again

 

hi, i've just been in contact with a bloke who brakes sierras for a living and he seems to think that all alloy 4x4 crossmembers are the same? i'm now thinking ive got the wrong mounting brackets? could anyone varify all the part numbers that ive posted? any help would be great as its really beginning to get me down. cheers

I've done a couple of 24v conversions and the cross-members are all the same. You need to make sure you are using a pair of xr4x4 engine mounts (on the block) not the original 24v ones are they are for the rwd engine mounts.

The easiest way to do this is to bolt the diff onto the engine then lower the engine into the engine bay and raise the cross member into position and bolt it all up. You can fit the steering rack afterwards with all the bits in place.

If it's not going on easily, you must be using the wrong engine mounts.

hi, i have changed the mounting brackets for what i was told where xr4x4 brackets. i can get the crossmember to fit but it gets in the way of where the diff should be and it pushes up against the sump. i am using uprated poly engine mounts but they look the same as origional mounts. it looks like if the brackets where 1 inch closer to the front of the engine then it would all fit. is there any chance any1 can cross reference all the following part numbers just to make sure ive got the right parts;

crossmember = V90BB-5019-AC

xr4x4 engine mount brackets = 83TF 6031 AA and 83TF6030 CA

xr4x4 sump = 15 5550 90/2295

hi, just been looking at some of the step by step pictures that some of you have posted of your 24v conversions and i am almost 100% sure that my mounting brackets on the engine are the wrong ones as they dont seem as long? going to see if i can source some proper xr4x4 brackets.
