Default Mk4 escort starter motor problem

Right basically getting stressed with this now so need some opinions, the gfs car seems to like killing starter motors for some reason and not sure why, think the main cause was/is due to heat from the 4-2-1 manifold but i fitted a heat sheild the last time i changed it and it started playing up again the other day, try to start it and it clicks so changed it tonite and when i fitted the spare one we had it fired up fine a couple of times so fitted the head shieid again and low and behold just clicks with this one too now. CHecked the wireing which seems ok but ended up breaking the push on connector so fitted a ring crimp connector and wound a nut on to hold it in place but still no luck, had to bump start it to drive it home but obviously she cant bump it on her own when im at work so lol.

any help would be apreciated

well ive taken one off the gfs other car which has had a zetec conversion but not sure whether it was a cvh one or zetec one but want to rule out what could be causing it first before sticking another on as the one that i fitted tonite was out of a running car and fired up fine the first couple times no stuttering or anything................
