Default Zetec + pistons

Which zetec should be bought for zetec conversion and future turbo? I wanted a 1.8 and have read that the 1998 onwards 'black top' series 3 zetec is the better engine?

Are the series 2 zetecs worth buying?

Secondly, how much is a set of standard Focus RS pistons + rods in good condition? (incase i decide 2.0 zetec instead)

Or price to pay for equivalent 1.8 pistons + rods to suit a turbo?

Thanks, Aston.

I used a set of calibra turbo (c20let) pistons when i done my 2.0 silvertop turbo conversion. i used standard rods but you have to take them to get the holes machined for the gudgeon pin. mine was good for just under 300 bhp and they gave me no hasstle at all.

you can pick up a set on ebay for about £100

I would deffo go 2.0 no doubt, If you want frs rods and pistons go series 3 "blacktop" but if you want c20let pistons use a silvertop as they have better rods than the blacktop as standard. But to be honest it would be cheaper all round if you just buy a focus rs engine. Unless you plan to do all the engine work your self.

True, things like uprated valve springs are hard to come by, Area 6 still do them for around 250-300 plus all the other bits you need.
But sometimes if you keep your eyes pealed on ebay you may build one cheaper than you think.

I'm not out to break any records, and i fully intend to build it all myself. I've got as much time as it takes.

I fail to see how a focus RS engine would be cheaper and still be everything i want it to be. Besides, that's much less fun, less involving and less rewarding.
