Default Fiesta Tachometer

Right, I've got a standard Mk3 Fiesta Classic 1.1. When I got the car it had the standard no tacho dash, so I picked one up from the scrapyard. I connected a wire off the coil wire (as I don't have the e-dis block) into the back of the dash block and the revs read BUT only upto about 2.5k. What can I do, without buying a different speedo, to get it to read right?
