hi there i have a 1983 16i mk3 cab which has a starting fault!!its not to bad from cold but as soon as the car has been used every time you try and start it it plays up!!some of the time it will fire up on three cyl and then all four then other times it will try and start then what seems to me as flooding occurs! i can put my foot to the floor and turn it over for 30 seconds and it will start missfiring and clearing after a few seconds!!the engine runs fine ive replaced plugs leads dizzy cap rotor and ignition module so im pointing towards a fuel problem???i have also noticed that when i switch the engine off there is a knocking noise which seems to be coming from the fuel tank area!!i thought this may be pressure building up in the tank but if i take the cap off theres no pressure there!! your thoughts please i love this car but its starting to really brass me off any advise will be much appreciated

Is it holding pressure, pump might be goosed change the fuel filter aswell

 

Get the injectors checked probably dribbling you wont notice when cold because the fuel will evaporate so starts ok.

 

Saying that I have a set of good injectors here only done 1k
