Default HOW TO PAINT A CAR

Hi all,

I am wanting to get a compressor etc to have a go at painting my car up. I was thinking about gettng one of the units you can buy a Machine Mart for about £130 ish. Does anyone know if these are any good for spraying cars up. Also if anyone can offer me any advice as to what paint I should use it would be appreciated as I am a beginner with the painting side of things.

Cheers
Dave

As i'm no expert on spraying, all i'll say is make sure your prepwork is perfect,if not no matter how good a sprayer you are the finish will be poor.Al.

Dave.

Buy the biggest compressor you can afford, I used a 25ltr one to spray a car and it was on constant and i kept losing pressure.
I have just finished spraying my latest car but this time i brought a 150 ltr compressor - worked loads better.
Make sure you buy a gun with the cfm the same as the compressor, or else it will either restrict the air or u'll use far to much.
Ive allways sparyed cars in cellulose, its far easier, but you will need to polish the paint after to get a nice shine, as it tends to dull as it dries. My last one i used two pak paint - brilliant stuff (great shine straight from the gun) but not really very good to spray in ur own garage with out extraction, as i found out (you are supposed to use an air fed mask etc!!).
When i prep'd it i put some good thick coats of primer on and then used an isloator (well worth buying). This stops any chemicals such as silicione based polishes bleedin through from ur old paint. U can put primer on and it be fine the once u put ur top coat , it could all go horribly wrong!!!

its very hard to master as wiv 2 pac paint you can spray 1 door it will come out shiney and nice spray the next door to it and it can come out dull so you will think give it a rub down and spray it again but then you will find that the door youve just sprayed is shiney but darker than the one next to it so its hard to do i would practice on sum rough doors before you try your car
