hi to all you knowledgeable ford enthusiasts out there. i am new to this forum so please excuse my ignorance.
i am currently trying to get together an engine/gearbox package for an old mk1 cortina and i need it to be around the 250bhp mark. I want to go for a zetec/duratec engine as cost is a major issue but i want to do it right at the same time (reliable). I have little or no knowledge of a zetec/duratec engine as all of my experience comes from turbo'd yb's.
In essence what i need is some good advice from people in the know how about these engines as to what to use.As im only a student still im working on a budget so the most reasonable but bombproof package gets it. I dont want to skimp too much. If you could advise me on the following:
-which zetec or duratec to run this hp reliably
-how to get 250bhp from the engine
-piston/rod/crank swap if necessary
-conversion to throttle bodies (what type)
-engine management needed
-possible gearbox to use in rwd format
sorry for the longwinded approach and thanks to anyone who may be able to help

calibra turbo pistons may take the power i think!?
s1 escort 'box with the lsd fitted!?
but a 2 litre silver top would be able to make that power, and the easist swap from the zetecs and duratecs available i think
think thats the basics, but if deffinatly 250 bhp custom pistons and rods will be needed

scholar do a deal for a duratec engine can be bought from mountgomery motorsport, 250+ bhp inludes everything for RWD, throttle bodies, starter, MBE etc for abot 8K, would be hard pushed to build it for that money.
