1990 MK4 XR3i-engine oil advise.

Afternoon all.
The Halfords spec book now lists 5w/30 semi synth recommended by Fords for the XR3i with 10w/40 as an option-what are your thoughts on this?

Depends on your mileage mate, my Xr's done 85k and I only use 10w/40.. Better to use the thicker stuff if you've got stamps missing in your service history book.
