My friend has an 2,0 automatic mondeo. His gerabox is making fun of him. As soon as the engine warmes up it begins to changing gears up and down where it shouldn't do. What could couse this problem.
Oil level is OK.

Try changing the oil first, ATF fluid should be a red colour, if yours isnt then get it changed!

common fault on the mondeo auto's, they dont have very good gearboxes

your best bet is find a 2nd hand box and swap it in, but they are hard to come by

repairs on those autoboxes arent economically viable.

you could convert to manual (the parts are quite cheap and readily available over here) but its a fairly big job. you would need:

Gearbox and linkages
Engine ECU
Brake Master Cylinder
Centre Consule
Clutch Pedal and linkages
Brake Pedal
Radiator
Instrument Cluster

Wrong, the auto's on these are excellent auto's imo.
Yes they do suffer problems, and are not very diy friendly, but manual boxes go bang as well.
It's not the fluid, does it jump up and down gears at will, more so when it is warm ?
If so all these changes are governed by a complex switch that reads speeds demands etc, these go wrong and are a whole £30 NEW, 15 minute job to fit, with a few tools, no biggee.
On the box just near the where the battery tray ends is a large connector that goes into a part on the gearbox, it has from memory around 16-20 wires in it, make sure this is clean.
If you like I will get the part number of the baddy bit.
The early vsersions of the box got a bad name as the clutch fingers used to break on the basket as they were a resin type, later and modded to cast alloy to solve the problems, the only other big problemis there is a diaphragm that controls certain speed pressures, this can tear or stick, but will lead to no drive at all.
I suspect that yours is a chronic up down violent change ?

On ours it happens on semi warm engine... it doesn't happen on cold or hot engine. But when it happens imagine driving at constant 60 miles all of a sudden she changes into second gear and you almost hit the windshield with your head from engine braking

we spent 200 GBP on that damn box, changed some hidraulic control unit and nothing ... as soon as the temperature reaches R on the scale (word NORMAL) it starts doing this again
