my gearbox has gone and been told when getting a replacement to make sure the gearbox number is the same does anybody know what number should be in a gti or where on the box it should be its a 1.8 gti cheers

 

It's just a standard iB5 fella, used in the majority of Escorts and Focus's.

Not sure.... Just remember starter at the back and no lift-up reverse jobbie.

I had a '96 Si which has the same gearbox as yours and I blew the diff on that. It cost me Ł120 to get fixed, would've been cheaper to just get a replacement.

 

We live and learn . I've priced a replacement box up at 50 quid from scrapy so fingers crossed its ok

 

hiya lads.. the gearbox mounts on my gti have gone.. its had the mondeo 2.0 put in it but its still got the original gearbox! ive rang the scrappers this morning and he said he has the 16v escorts(zetec), but theres to types of gearboxs a small 1 and a bigger 1,, do yus no how i find out what sort mine is?

Hi, if its still got the original box it's gonna be an ib5,(the casing is smaller than the mtx75 as fitted to the mondeo) ive changed this mount on loads of these and to be honest mate i'd go for a new one because chances are if you go to a scrappy it'll be fooked!

Well to be honest if i did it again it would be easy cuz at first i wuz jaking the engine up at loads of differant angles to try an get it out.. finally got it out then i wuz there for about another half hour tryin to get the new 1 in lol, my m8 turned up an got it straite in(from underneath an behind if ya get me lol).. done now tho an the car dont pull u in2 oncoming traffic wen ya put the pedal to the metal....

 

The one on the front is easy, it's the fucker at the back.

just to let you know mate got gearbox sorted out last weekend got one for 40 quid in the end from a ford only breakers that just set up about 9 months ago really helpfull bloke running it but the cars sorted now and runs like a dream so cheers for the info mate
