Default Fiesta Mk4 Cambelt change?

Hi All,

I have a 1998 R Mk4 Fiesta 1.4 Zetec, which has never had the cambelt changed. I have been told it needs to be changed, it has only done 55000 miles, but because of the age it needs too.

Would this be something that is urgent or could I leave it for a few weeks/Miles? And any idea what this would cost?

TIA

Thanks for the reply.

Yep, thats the one. According to the manual it says 100000 miles or 10yrs old, which ever comes first. But I wouldn't know if I saw the belt, if it still looked in great condition or not. I just don't fancy spending a few hundred quid, if it don't need it.

I honestly would change the belt on that mate regardless of the mileage.

The belt change intervals are specified for a reason. Over the the years the materials used to make the belt deteriorate due to oil contamination, wear etc.

I worked as a technician for a Ford dealer a few years ago and have seen the mess when a belt snaps. Not a pretty sight.

The choice however is yours. Change the belt and avoid an even more expensive repair bill or risk it and pray the belt doesn't snap.
