Default mechanical tempeature senders

Can they be replaced?! ive bought a 2nd hand racetech oil temp and pressure gauge which the temp sender is soldered in both ends so looks a bit of a pig to cut it off and re-attatch/solder back on but ideally i need to shorted the wire as its way too long and the sender end is pretty big and dont want to cut a big hole for it in the rubber gromet the ecu wire goes thru!! (its a cossie by the way!)

As a thought if i cut the wire somewhere in the middle, then shorten it would it still work properly if something was used 2 join it?! and what would be best if i do?! Not to hot on how these work exactly as im usd 2 electric not mechanical ones!!

Had a quick look on ebay and their all elec temp senders from what i can see as obviously most normal car ones are!!

Cheers
