i have been told the bottom end is gone any one know if they mean the bearing shells on the crank

if you rev the car up does it have a low down thumping noise , if so bottom end gone!

Bottom end generally means crank/shell wear, put the car on concrete get someone to gently blip the throttle just above tickover you will feel the vibration from the wear if this is the case, failing that steep hill high gear, see if it starts clanking.

thanks all ya its clanking just above idle is the engine gone or can it be fixed with new shells?

No point just fitting new shells unlikely to not need at least polishing on the ends that are gone.
