Default S1 Gear selector rod, please help!!!

I have just had my S1 box rebuilt, but the gear selector rod is badly worn and Ford no longer do that part.

It's the rod that has a joint at the end and selectors to the gears not the one which is fixed.

What are my options, i presume this is a common problem so if i do get a second hand one it could be as bad as this and I think it was a different one they used after 1986.

Can anyone help!!!

Cheers

Matt

remove the whole unit from the car and open the selector box that sits under the gear lever, this is where mine was loose, there is a small rubber ring which wears and needs replacing to make the selection better.

Burton's Quickshift doesn't include the stabiliser bar anymore cos they're obsolete.

Got mine from www.fordpartsuk.com

Good outfit

Colin.

Hello all

Cheers for the replies, I have spoken to the guy who rebuilt the box for me (cheap at £375 including a new clutch and removal and fitting I thought) and he recomended 2 places he uses who will refurbish the rod, so hopefully it's going to be all sorted by next week.

He is also doing Zetec boxes for CVH turbos and claims them to be much stronger than standard, reckons it's an easy conversion aswell, so if anyone needs their box doing give him a bell.

Alan 024 76 667211 based in Coventry, not sure what the garage is called.

I will let you know how I get on with the rod just incase any of you need yours doing in the future.

Cheers again for the help.

Matt

Matt

Glad that you're sorted.

Remember fordpartsuk when you're after something else , they managed to find me a new stabilser rod and even gave me a discount.

Colin.
