Switch the ignition on, then connect a multimeter switched to volts between a good earth and one of the terminals of the coil, followed by the other terminal of the coil and earth. What voltages do you get? Also connect a test lamp between the two terminals of the coil and get someone to crank the engine. This will tell you if the coil is being switched. Do this first....

Kind regards

Paul
