Default Hesitant acceleration

Hi. I have a s2 erst. I have notcied when accelerating, btwn 2-3000rpm it stutters and hesitates but if i put my foot furthur down on the throttle it clears and pulls cleanly. It seems to do it at a certain point when holding the accelerator.

Could this be throttle posiition sensor? Only thing is it doesnt do it when in neutral, seems to rev ok then. Im thinking this as my nan owned the car before me from new and she wouldnt have ragged it and would have drove with the accelerator at that position all the time!!!!

Is there anyway of testing the throttle position sensor with a digital multimeter? Or anyway of cleaning it up and improving it without replacing it?

If it doesn't do it when there's no load on the engine (ie, in neutral), I'd point at the MAP sensor as that's how the ECU determines the load being put on the engine - but I'm not an expert with MFI, so don't know if it has one to start with.

Didn't think so, but at least a few other people have thrown some good suggestions in

I try and offer something if I think I can help - it's rude not to. I know how annoying it is to not get answers for questions that aren't related to 6 degree beams or turbine housings.

i had a similar problem with my series 2,it was hesitating a lot between 2500 and 3500 rpm so i checked the spark plugs and ht leads and the distrubutor cap all was fine,so i went to drive the car and it pulled away fine but then died (cut out),i found out that the distrubutor was nackered ,so i fitted a new one and now it is running like a dream
