if theres power to the Alternator there should be power to the clocks or battery light as the power loops through the clocks from battery to alternator sounds like an alarm issure to me

A decent immobiliser can do this, depending on where the power is interupted, but is dead easy to find.

On my old XR3i the immobiliser was fooked, the car wouldnt start and had no power etc as though the battery was dead. I d/c the battery left it for 10 minutes, re-connected it and the immobiliser had disarmed itself and it started fine.
