Hi all,i have a 1990 4x4 ebony black cossie which i`m looking to make around 300bhp. Its not a daily driver so if its a bit nasty on fuel, thats ok. The only engine mod i can see on the car is a 4" exhaust, which sounds nice. There is a digital boost gauge which reads the car as producing about 12psi which i thought was a little high for standard. It has been subject to a rebuild in recent years and dosent appear to smoke badly or anything like that. I dont hammer the car, but i must admit i was a little dissapointed with the performance compared to my old 2wd saph, which was about 260bhp and felt damn quick!
I see a lot of parts for sale here second hand, but i dont really know if its advisable to put them on my own car with fuelling issues etc.I like the look and idea of something like a rs500 intercooler, but i dont know if this is a bit of overkill?
I`m certainly not doing this with a blank chequebook, but i`m not afraid to spend a bit to get it right.
Really appreciate all your replies,Vaughan.

Best bet is go straight to stage 3,dark greens,3 bar map sensor,MSD chip will give you 300-330 bhp, buying second hand is ok although i would get things like injectors flow tested before using, plenty parts for sale on here for you.

as what KSA-cossie says basically; if your on a budget i would keep it simple
change the map sensor for a 3 map bar sensor, change the injectors for a set of dark greens, get yourself a decent chip (MSD would be ideal) and that's it.
the standard 4x4 intercooler will cope with 330bhp no problem, the standard turbo will be fine at 300 bhp but i wouldn't go more than 330bhp on this turbo as it might not last long depending on its condition
other things i would do is rewire the fuel pump for a direct feed from the battery; really simple to do. I would also fit a brether system as the standard one is pants. just give us a shout if you need anymore help - all this can be done by yourself its not difficult in the slightest

As said go straight to stage 3 stuff as listed, pump rewire, and FAN rewire.
Give it a good service, make sure the fuel filter is new or changed.
Up to you what chip to use, there are chips at least as good as MSD, but whatever look to someone who can also do a set up, ie fit the bits if you can't yourself, and do a on load fuelling check, most important, and worth travelling for, you could just book it in to have the work done and have a faster drive home!!
