Default cosworth fan problem

Im having problems with my rad fans on my 4x4 sapphire cosworth.

Today when running the car up, the fans were cutting in and out but didnt seem to be running for more than a few seconds, after the car had been running for about 30mins the fans were running for a while, i turned engine off and fans still ran i locked car up and went inside. i came out 25 mins later they were still running so i disconnected the fan switch. About 2 hours later i went and connected the fan switch back up, the fans run for a second and then set the alarm off but continued to stop.

Would this be a fan switch problem or a relay problem?? any other ideas guys please??

if you turn the car off it cannot pump the water around the engine, so the fans think the engine is still hot.

A new fan swith is about Ł10 all in from Woodford,i got one yesterday for the escort.

Can fit a new one and then try it.

The Sapphs fan switch is in the rad which the fans are cooling regardless of the water circulating. Even my RST fan kicks in (uses a direct live battery feed) but switches off after about 10 mins of running and that fan switc is no where near the rad/fan..

I would think you have another issue else where John. I have seen a hell of a lot of issues around the Motorcraft thermostat recently and suffered a lot of hot running problems with my dad's car. We have now fitted a Halfords t/stat which was about Ł6 and the car is spot on...after we changed the head gasket due to the hot running problems as well!

The Halfords part number is HTK606....make sure it is stamped 82 degrees on it though.

cheers daz, im sure the head gasket is on its way also as did a block test with the expansion bottle and the blue liquid started to go green so fumes are getting in the water.
