MISSFIREING COSSIE
ESCORT COS RUNNING L8 LOOM AND ECU. THE CAR HAS BIN RUNNING GREAT FOR THE PAST 8 MONTHS SINCE A CONVERTED IT FROM A SMALL TURBO.
ALL OF A SUDDEN ITS STARTED MISSING. THE CAR STARTS FINE WHWN HOT OR COLD COMES ON FAST IDLE WARMS UP AND IDLES FINE. WHEN I REV IT AND HOLD IT AT AROUBD 3500 RPM IT STARTS MISSING. WHEN I DRIVE THE CAR IT DRIVES FINE UP TO AROUND 300 RPM AND THEN HESITATES AND THEN IT PULLS THROUGH IT AND GOES LIKE STINK. IT HES ALSO USING ASHITE LOAD OF PETROL. THE CAR IS RUNNING 3 BAR AND GREENS. I HAVE TRIED CHANGING LHE LEADS,PLUGS,COIL,IGNITION AMP,MAP SENSOR,DIZZY PHASE SENSOR,ECU AND NO JOY. COULD IT BE THE LOOM BREAKING DOWN OR THE THROTTLE SENSOR?

same problem as loads of people get by the sounds of it mate
most likley to be either, map sensor, act sensor or ect sensor.
you can test the act & ect sensors by starting the car and letting it idle, then pull the plug off one of the sensors and bridge the contacts on the plug with somthing metal!
this will make the ecu think your engine is warm cause there is no resistance and cut the fuel back.
if you here the engine get better when you do this you know uve found the fooked sensor.
my moneys on the act sensor!

had a similar problem with a mates escort coz,car was missfireing around 3500 to 4000 rpm which according to "stu" was a sensor failure and was particular symptom with p8 ECU's (4000 rpm limit is introduced for sensor failure) the car would run ok after that rpm and up to to it.
turns out we had changed a turbo a few weeks previous and the lambda sensor was duff so problem solved with a new sensor.
but your running a L8 and i dont think it gives this limit for a similar failure so i,m not sure but if you have changed all else as you have listed it might be worth trying the lambda sensor if its fitted

hmmmm?
it could be your engine loom, this was what it turned out to be on my car
my loom was baisically old and fooked, it had shorts all over it and it keeped blowing act sensors like there was no tommorow!
ok so have you checked all of the following?
crank sensor, dizzy cap, dizzy phase sensor, map sensor, plugs, leads, all vacuum pipes off the plenum?
when its on idle and you pull the plug leads off one at a time do they all make a difference? ie, is she firing on all four cylinders?
when my loom was shaged i had the exact same problems as you! missfire at around 4k but it would clear sometimes when you boot it!
was overfueling like a good un!

I`m having a similar problem actually, Mine is the engine bay wiring loom, cylinder4 injector, if I bend the harness back to the bulk head it runs great, when it plays up it is only under load, idles fine except when moving loom about. Try a new one if you can then. You had to pay for all those parts you tried ??!?!??!!?

ILL TRY THAT NEXT BUT I DONT FINK MY MATE WOULD HE TO HAPPY ABOUT TAKEING THE LOOM OUT AF HIS SAFF SO ILL TRY AND BORROW ONE FROM MY LOCAL RS CENTER. OR EVEN BUY A LOOM AND THEN SELL IT ON IF IT ISENT THAT.
