Default Garrett GT2871R on a 4x4 sapp cossie

hi guys, we are trying to choose a new turbo for a mates car, looking for 360-400 bhp.

the engine is standard at the moment, apart from the usual stage3, moongoose and a cone-filter.

std compression, std intercooler, std head, std inlet manifold and a 2wd exhaust manifold.

the inlet and intercooler is most likely to change in a short time, the inlet is gonna be changed to a jenspeed re-welded inlet, with the elbow enlarged. the head will be ported when the standard headgasket lets go.

we would really like to test a good garrett gt-turbo, and at first the gt3071r was considered, but we have now looked more at the gt2871r with an .63 turbine-house and a t3-flange. used along with a -31 actuator and a good bleed-valve.

what do you guys think about this?

does anyone have any experience with this turbo, or a gt-turbo of similar-size?

I cant see any performance gains from said turbo, just it will spool up quicker than standard t3 and it will last a lot longer than a t3

Except the one you just posted

I think leecavturbo on here has a gt2876r on his car...with very good results....I was thinking of using one of these on my build but a t34.63 setup has come about which will cost me a lot less so i've gone for that.

Cheers

but your forgetting that the gt28 (dependant on a/r) can flow enough for arround 400bhp.....whereas the T3 will do ~100bhp less...

So if it has same drive feel but can produce 10bhp more then it can't be bad.

The turbine is 62/54mm on a GT2871R, not small for a 400hp goal. I think it's 65/60mm on GT3071R
