hi just wondering if anyone can help i just brought a escort gti yesterday and noticed the clutch slips when u put your foot down just wondering
1. how much a clutch is and
2. how easy is it to do thanks very much will

 

depends where you get it from, my local motor factors does a 3-piece kit for Ł60, they arent too difficult to be honest, just take your time. read a haynes manual. that should give you an idea of whats involved. bit of advice, if you chose to remove the drive shaft cups from the gearbox use 2 plastic milk bottle caps to stop gearbox oil leaking out, they fit perfectly.

 

It's fairly straight forward to be fair. I did mine when I had a Si and I'd never done one before.
From memory you need to jack the front up high enough to slide the gearbox out, remove both front road wheels and pop the ball joints. Lever the driveshafts out the gearbox and tie them out the way. Remove most of the bolts (leave a couple in 'till you're ready to split it) and the starter, disconnect the clutch cable. Put a jack under the sump with a block of wood to protect it, then remove the mountings at the gearbox end. Lower the jack slowly 'till you've room then put another jack under the gearbox, remove the last bolts and pull it apart.
I bought a clutch alignment tool and it saved a lot of hassle, they don't cost much.
