mk6 escort steering column

Default mk6 escort steering column

hi guys the column on my escort moves in and out about an inch, i have checked the uj's and they do not move when this play occcurs it is in the top part of the column where i can not see. does anyone have any ideas what this could be or if it is normal for a colapsable steering column

please help

Does it have an adjustable column?

yes id does the play seems to be in the top part of the coloum as if a bearing has colappsed

Have you taken the plastic shrouds off to have proper a look? My Si had about a half inch of up and down movement which was down to a knackered adjuster.

yeah i have and the adjuster is not moving unless it is supposed to
