Default Starter motor problems

my starter motor from my mk2 xr2 only likes to turn the engine over when its cold! if the car has been for a 10 mile drive, switch off, when i turn the key the engine turns over really slow. wait half an hour, it turns it properly?!

anyone heard of this problem before?

Thanks

is the starter at the front of the engine? try moving the wires far away from the exhaust as you can.

Also a sign of sticky or worn brushes.

so change the main power cable to the starter see if that makes a difference? where did he get the cable from?

i thought it could be the wires getting hot and creating a resistance in the cable, any ideas how i can keep the temps of the cable down? insulation or something?

if thats not the cause ill try the brushes.

thanks
