Default timing question flippin URGENT

Hi all....again.
Right im taking the head off my rs to do a camshaft change. Do I need to make sure the engine is in safe position i.e crank and cam lining up with block. I cant see and marks on the cam pulley and the crank is out of sight.

If I just mark a point on the cam pulley to a mark on the block wont that just be as good???

Need help asap

cheers

You cant just put any old mark anywhere mate it needs to be done properly and no you dont have to put the "engine in a safe position" you just time it up how you normally would once you put the head back on by making sure that both pulleys are at TDC.

it isnt standard, these is a point cut into the inside of the pulley but no corresponding mark to line it up with

It makes no difference if you time it before or after you put the head on

You can line the bottom pully up but it's no good timming the cam up if your just going to take the head off and put a new cam in

The only way i can surgest then is bring the crank pulley round to tdc if its a blue pulley it will defo have a mark on it,then mark the cam pulley at the top then remove the belt, when you put belt back on turn engine over by hand first a few times to make sure your not locking up anywere,or just go get standard pulley with the mark already on.

you shouldnt be lookin at it from underneath as the mark will be on top when at tdc

Hia mate, I didnt take the head off in the end. The cam, rocker arms and followers are now out.

To me the cam doesnt seem worn at all!!!!! I have taken some pics of it and am just putting them up on here to see what you think. I dont really know what im looking for.

Panicing now though, coz if its not a worn cam then what the hell is wrong with my car
