Default ABS light on

Hello all,

I am going to view a Mondeo 51 (new shape) plate on Saturday. The owner said it has has 4 new tyres, pads and is in getting it's MOT done, however the ABS light keeps coming on. The garage is meant to be looking at this as well.

Is it a major issue if the light is on?

sounds to me like a sensor??

or could it be worse!!!!

it will fail an mot with this light on but it could be somthing as simple as dirt in the teeth on the shafts or as bad as the abs unit.

Could it turn out to be costly,

MOT, can I not just take the bulb out before it was tested?

cant just take the bulb out as it will still fail as it should come on for around 3secs and then go off

not sure on a mondeo abs ecu; but i bought a audi A4 avant with the abs light on as it was cheap; Audi wanted £1052+VAT + Fitting for the new abs ecu.

i found a new ABS ecu for £600 inc VAT and fitted it myself.

ideally if you can take a mechanic with you with a scanner, you can see what the fault code is and then make a decision from that.

Also maybe be worth checking if the ABS pump & ECU are one combined unit, if they are and it does need replacing you're talking more money cos you've got to bleed the system in after fitting a new pump
