I use it on XP (via the DOS console) and it works well.

You have to create a 'S8' directory right under C:\ and copy all files on the CD then you'll be able to run it

If you don't do so the software won't be able to create a user file and then stop running

what version are you running then? As I was trying that exact thing only this morning and it would connect up for about 10 seconds and then disconnect.

I replied your pm, my mapping soft is 8021-x/100
But I've a message as soon as I'm connected to the ECU telling me upgrade issue. (Because the ECU soft is older than the mapping one) so it seems to be a different issue

Don't you have a message when you loose the connection?

I too have the S8, are you running it through a real serial port or some kind of converter (cardbus or usb).

Have you had any luck updating the software issue?

Bri.

I use it through a serial port.

You may have problem with USB to Serial converters as the soft seems to be only able to connect on Com1 or 2 so you'll have to set you adapter to one of these.
(Go to the Device Manager / ports / your converter then parameters and advanced and set it to COM 1 or 2)
You may have to use the software included to set it properly..

And no, to reply your question I still have no news from Simon

Did you tried to set it on com1 or 2 as I said?
It should work.
On my main computer I use one of these adapters to communicate with my UPS (that's the same kind of problem as it only recognise com1 or 2 serial port) and it works well

I'll try on mine this WE if I can get the new software from Simon.
But I'm affraid to have to send the ECU back to it's previous owner as Simon has done nothing yet and I don't know if he really will

and on windows 98 too as it WON'T work on XP

I can email version 8019-B /100 to you if you want (it's probably the same as the one in the ecu anyway.

install the old software and do an 'ecu update' and it will 'update' to the same version as the software.

Hi Kev
I agree with you about using the older version but I don't have it
My firmware version is S8ECU-8015-F
So I would need a mapping soft version 8015-xx and I only have the 8021-x/100

To upgrade the ECU I need a file in .ecu that is not present and my CD.
And finally, I not even sure that my hardware (COSV05) will even support an upgrade to the 8021 or your 8019.

Could you check if you've a file S8UP8019.ECU on your CD?
If so I'll also ask you to check your hardware version and if we've the same then I'll be ready to kill anyone you'll ask me to kill to get these files!!

Maybe we can continue this chat on my topic to avoid messing with mikedaf2

It does, I just tried!! (My laptop is on 98 that's why I didn't before but my main PC is under XP MCE)

But you MUST set your adapter on COM1 otherwise the Dos crash while testing

Well I say so but as I only get a message telling my to upgrade the ECU I can't make sure that I wouldn't be disconnected after 10s like you said

Yes it looks older
You should have a firmware version like S8ECU-8015-xx

EDIT

To come back on the topic of this thread I tried to connect from XP and it seems to work but it doesn't do it correctly.

I can connect but when I compare the data from the same map it says they aren’t the same on XP were it works correctly on 98..
I tried some parameters on the Com setting but no success

I guess I'll keep my old laptop for a while!

I've the same firmware than you, so we are looking for the same thing.
I've a later software release but not the file required to upgrade the ECU so it's useless. (Luckily kjc300 has been able to give me the old 8015 mapping soft so I can now communicate with the ECU) Still remain that peterjan (the guys who sold me the ECU) is thief as he advertised an upgraded ECU and of course he never replied when I asked to be refund!!

Anyway as I told you if I can get this bloody upgrade file I'll forward it to you (has long as you have the same Hardware release than me COSV5) but no news from Simon or anyone at the moment

Mike I will send you the software for the hardware you have later tonight. At least it should get you going. I don't have the update ecu file for the 8019 version I have.
