Default ford escort turbo diesel running problems

hi can anyone help i,ve got a 2000 ford escort turbo diesel it,s running like it is sucking in air i put a new air mass meter on but it made no difference but i noticed the wireing block that is plugged in to the meter does not make any difference if it is connected or not it still runs the same does anybody no what that plug should do or do they have any suggestions what it could be thank you

Have you got an air filter in the box?

i would then check for air leaks on all the rubber hoses as they become weak with age and can colapes.

i have replaced the turbo to air box pipe on several vans as it becomes porus at the turbo and did not fit correctly.
