Default turbo rebuilding

hi there, has anyone had a go at rebuilding their turbo, have a stage 2 turbo on my escort and noticed there is rather a lot of side to side movement in the shaft, the turbo doesnt smoke, how hard is it to change the bearings?, have seen full turbo kits on ebay quite cheap and was wondering!

Not very hard to do really, but it won't be balanced when you put it all back together. You can mark it all up so its the same balance as it was when you took it to pieces though.

Some turbo's have special shaped nut's, not sure if the RST turbo is 1 of them.

Default Turbo

I think it is relatively easy to swap parts, however spinning at 10,000's rpm I would want it balanced.

you'll need a balancing machine to do it properly, best of getting it done professioanly and not cut any corners imo

As above get it done properly or it could end in tears, we all like to think we can fix owt but its not that simple.
Remember buy cheap buy twice.
