4x4 Sapphire cosworth - power steering pump leak
Hi all,
Got a leaky power steering pump, leaks from the top where the banjo comes in.
I've changed the two sealing washers around the banjo and that made no difference, so I removed the nut that the banjo goes into (springs out after a few turns), and there's an O ring in there, I suspect that's the cause of the leak.
Does anyone know precisely what size the O ring is (long shot), or, should I just get a new pump ?

20K+ Super Poster.
"O" rings are a lot cheaper than a new pump, so worth a try first.
Look in yellow pages for seal supplier, but might have to buy 10 but will only be less than 10p each.

Thanks Tabetha, indeed o-rings are cheaper... New pump is Ł290+VAT
Took the pump off the car last night and removed the bit where the o-ring sits, it looks like a 20mmx15mm (ODxID), but not 100% sure, you can get 19.5mm, 20mm, 20.5mm ones... how can I tell mine hasn't shrunk !!!
The workshop manual actually covers the dismantling of the pump right down to component parts, and says to replace all o-rings and seals, but doesn't state what size o-ring you should use
Think I'll take it to a local o-ring supplier for advice

Well, after closer inspection it looks like the elbow after the banjo connector's leaking, the weld seems to have broken.
However, I am not sure if that's the original problem, I was cleaning the hose after replacing the washers either side of the banjo and I might have tugged it so much so that I broke the weld... who knows...
Anyway, off to get a new hose and we'll see how that goes

common problem greg. i had the same on my 2wd PAS pipe, as well as the turbo water pump on 2 of my cossies i suspect that was always where the leak was from.
i can braze that up for you if you bring it in to work in basingstoke and look for a new o-ring at the same time from our selection here
