Default change escort wheel baring

Hi guys I think my bearings (rear) are nearly finnished

Get a loud noise from the rear which gets louder the faster I go

Bearings?

What damage can be done from driving the car whiles the barings are broken? Ive drove almost 200 miles since I 1st started to hear it

If so.. is it easy to DIY replace them? I heard about needing a hydrolic press?

Any pointers received with thanks

ps.. 1995 5 door escort 1.6 16v

You do NOT need a hydraulic press, I did some years ago but did not need a press, from what I can remember they just drifted out, fairly easy.

hi there
you only need a press for the front bearings the back ones are easy to do will take about a hour each side but you will need to do it now rather than later jack the back of the car and see if you can move the wheel in or out if there is any movment at all dont drive it and change the bearing mate.

I bought a press new for Ł99 to do the rear bearings on my focus, and it will help with all the jobs on my XR3i such as bushes and all the bearings etc etc, its a handy tool,

but as people say if ur just doing the bearings they do drift out, especially if you give them a good heating through, but obviosuly not enough to warp any drums etc etc
By the way not sure but can your bearings be adjusted, ie tightend up like the MK4 ESCORT, if so try giving them a tweak........

Ive just had the car up on axle stands with the handbrake off and there is zero play on the wheel at all

I held it at 12 and 6 oclock and it there was no play aswell as 9 and 3 oclock

It is solid and the handbrake was off..

There is a grinding noise however when i spin the wheel and noticed my handbrake was sticking when i took it off there to spin the wheels and had to really grab the wheels to free them so i could spin the wheel

Could it be the back brakes then that is causing the noise when driving?

Its only passed its MOT in july

Sorry if im a pain guys
