Default capri 2.8 wont start!!

hi having trouble with my 2.8 capri.
started on wednesday nite when i thrashed it out of a junction and it just cut out. called the aa and they got me running with a tow and the car ran fine all the way home.
started it the next day and was ok so got in from work and cleaned the plugs up and it started for about 4 secs then tried 2 rev it and it made i funny noise from fuel pump and died.
wont start now except when i pour petrol into the throttle body but stops as soon as petrol is gone.

any1 had this happen and know how 2 sort it?
fuel pump seems 2 b working as i can here it when i stop turning engine over iam thinking it could b metering head but dont know how to check

hi mate yeah i getting a spark and seems 2 b loads of pressure in the system when i take the pipe off at the fuel filter but the fuel pipes on the metering head dont seem 2 have hardly any pressure in them.
will take a pipe off tommorrow and crank it over and se wot happens. iam guessing if fuel comes out then the fuel pump is fine.

crack the main feed pipe from the metering head and get someone to spin it over .the fuel should come out under pressure! if its not id say the fuel filter is blocked. will cost you 15 quid ish for a new one.

Check the flap in the metreing head has not jammed, shut as this will stop fuel flow, they siffer from a build up of carbon forming a ring around the plate, but also if any crud gets onto pintle pin they can and do jam.

its got a new fuel filter on and there is loads of pressure at the pipe that goes onto the metering head.
i checked the flap on the metering head and it was dirty so i cleaned it and it seems 2 move up really easy its a bit stiffer pushing it down though.
1 thing i noticed is when i had the metering head off i poured petrol into each of the 6 holes on the top that the fuel pipes go into and lifted the flap up and there was only 4 of them drained the fuel out of them and 2 where still full. dont know if thats normal but i thought all of them would of drained the same.

try and toe the car and if it starts off a toe you might have pressure lost as the starter wont go fast anuf to start it...........

silly question but checked the distributor for wear and wobble?
on my old 5 i did this, exact same problem occoured.
what had happened was the dizzy had been worn (with age) and that last rev over what you are suppost to rev to must have popped something out and the dizzy didnt spin on regular intevals, putting the timing way retarded on some and wayy too earlly on other beats.

if not try the choke (if its automatic) see if thats staying open on starting, could also show the same symptoms

If you have a spark volt drop the fuel pump relay making sure you check the TD pin (centre) for its feed fromt he coil.
