Default water problem

ford sierra saphire 4x4 93 cosworth
snapped the water temp coolant sensor in the head still sealed so i purchased 32 mm fitting kit and inserted the new temp sender into the front pipe and extended the wire from the plug but even though it does register the reading is not even coming onto the white part of the temp gauge please help also with not having a temp gauge am worried that i mayhave another problem the header tank bubbles away when engine is turned off as though its bubbling over but its not to hot when engine is running the header is fine do i have an air block please help me

This may sound stupid but needs to be asked, I assume you put an earth on the sender housing ?
The bubbles are normal for a little while as the engine is just drawing air from the system, to prevent air locks, so long as everything is clear, ie pipes rad etc it will be ok.

problem solved thnaks again tabetha to the rescue again cheers mate needed to eart the housing tried it no problems temp gauge working perfect sitting right in th middle of norm is that right

That's where mine sits, fan comes on at "O", at lower edge of "O".
You know what they say, and earth a day keeps the worries away, alright they don't but it sounds good!!
