Use manufacturers torque sequence but do not use the engine manufacturers torque specs.Torque the nuts to 80ft.lbs
But the manufacturers sequence says after torqueing to turn through 180degres.I have read that this then overloads the head gasket (due to bolts no being stretch bolts)and to just torque it down to the 80ft.lbs

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Tightening sequences taken from the Cosworth workshop manual;
3 dr & 2wd Sapphire:
ex side
9 5 1 3 7
8 4 2 6 10
in side
4wd Sapphire & Escort (both large and small turbo) :
ex side
9 3 1 5 7
8 6 2 4 10
in side
If you are using the 190000 psi, 12 mm ARP stud kit you only torque the nuts up to 80 ft lbs when using ARP's moly assembly lubricant.
