Just bought an ARP stud and nut kit to clamp the head down nice and tight just wondering if anyone has any advice on tightening sequance and torque settings?

 

if im not mistaken ARP products come with instructions.........?

 

They do but i have read lots of conflicting things and i just want to be sure im doing the right thing

 

well i personally would say ARP know more about their fasteners than anyone else

 

Has anyone fitted a head using this kit?

 

I have been told to torque the head to 80blf in the usual sequence and forget the 180 turn??????????

 

what does the instructions say?

 

Use manufacturers torque sequence but do not use the engine manufacturers torque specs.Torque the nuts to 80ft.lbs

But the manufacturers sequence says after torqueing to turn through 180degres.I have read that this then overloads the head gasket (due to bolts no being stretch bolts)and to just torque it down to the 80ft.lbs

 

torque sequence is the order you tighten the bolts in, the torque specs are the tightness of each one..........

 

that means tighten from the middle out

If you are using the 190000 psi, 12 mm ARP stud kit you only torque the nuts up to 80 ft lbs when using ARP's moly assembly lubricant.

 

this is correct for a rs turbo.
