A mate of mine has a 1.3 Escort on a G reg . Recently it has started to misfire, and has a lack of power, especially in low revs and feathering the throttle. In high revs, it seems fine.

Hi mate.Do the tappets sound noisey?If so, I would say the camshaft has had it.The HCS engines were prone to wearing out cams quickley.

How can we tell if the camshaft s buggered?

 

well all the HCS engines ive ever heard are tap monsters, but all seem to run alright.

Have you indentified why its missing? Ignition? Fuel? Possibly a failed headgasket?

A compression test wouldnt go a miss
