Default faulty sensor

hi while i was drivin down the motorway 2 day in my saff cosworth 2wd i had a message come up on the s.e.c monitor saying m.a.p sensor faulty, i pushed the button to reset and has been find since.
the question is where is the m.a.p sensor located and what does it do

MAP sensor located on inner wing, nearside, below and to the rear opf the expansion bottle about 6" above the chassis rail.
You will be able to identify it as it has a small pipe that goes between it and the PLENUM COVER, with some SHARP 90 degree bends in it and also a connector, it is also upside down to look at , and the 3x10mm bolts for it are accessed from the underside of it holding it to the bracket.
It sends a mesage to the ECM about VACUUM or BOOST conditions present in the inlet side of the engine ie on boost or of boost etc and by how much of eiother, basically how much effort the engine is working to.
Stands for MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE.
