Default 4x4 cossie knock sensor, disconnect it????

Found my knock sensor wiring has been chafed buy my crank pulley could this cause a running problem?
Ive been advised buy a tuner to disconnect it and chuck it in the bin as they never work well anyway and also my car is stage 3 so it's prob not written into map or something like that.

I trust completely what Ive been told but it's often nice to get a second opinion or three...

IMO i think it'd be fine to disconnect it...i'm not too sure how many aftermarket chips have the function to make alterations based on the knock sensor signals anyway....or rather the tuner has spent time to set the parameters etc.
