Default 4x4 cos, brake problems...

Right, my brake pedal started to go a little spongy, needing about an inch of travel or so before the brakes would come on. Once past there, braking was fine and the pedal would get progressively harder until I left it for a while, at which point the spongyness would come back.

So, I decided to bleed the whole system and replace with new fluid, hoping that maybe it was a little air/water in the fluid.

Now, the pedal feels just fine, car brakes perfect so the fluid replacement was worthwhile

But, and it's a big but.... the abs light is permanently on, along with the handbrake light
Took the car for a little spin and she brakes just fine

Searched on here, and looked at posts I had bookmarked, but can't figure out what could be wrong.

I didn't leave the pump on for ages while bleeding, so I would be surprised if I had burned it out, any other ideas ?

I have to keep the fluid level about 1" ABOVE the MAXIMUM mark otherwise I too get this, obviously the float inside the m/cyl is a little overcautious.
