standard sapphire cosworth,want 400 bhp ish,help!
hi,i have a standard(not concours so not worth keeping standard)1990 2wd sapphire cosworth,it has a group a headgasket and a crap scorpion exhaust,i want between 330 and 400 reliable bhp,i wont be using it for track days or everyday use, just something to relieve stress after a hard days work,i am going to buy an airtec intercooler and mongoose exhaust first, then go down the usual the usual injectors and chip route, after that i know ill need to uprate the fuel system and induction side of things, but i dont know whats the best for what i need or who to go to for the parts and advice,i stay up in scotland so reputable tuners arent thick on the ground, also roughly how much will i be looking at roughly,i might have to budget for a turbo, but which 1?any help will be much appreciated!thanks, lee

hi can offer the advice that was given to me when i built my cossie to the same sort of spec your thinking of.
you are doing the right things as mentioned with regards the exhaust and intercooler, i personally used a tube torque and pace, for 330bhp dark green injectors a 31 actuator and k&n cone with a chip from a good tuner should see this power, again i used msd in blackpool and was very happy.
to get to 400ish (although not sure now) a drop to low comp (7.4:1), ported head,BD10's on verniers, and changed turbo to a turbo technics stg 3 t34 with .55 housing, uprated grp A fuel pump and got a live map from MSD.Again was very happy drove superb and went well on the road.
again i'm not an expert just passing on what i did, hope it helps.

okay, thanks, did you get msd to do all the work to the car?were you happy with their service?when i went to ava in scotland they made me feel as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit and see getting any info out of them was like interoggating a russian spy, then when i went back the next time they ripped me off Ł250 for work they didnt do,hence why im looking for a company that comes recommended, thanks for the reply, lee

no probs. hope it helped
The engine build i did myself with local engineering company doing the machining work to the crank & pistons, used ARP fastners throughout, turbo sourced through Turbo Systems Motorsport.
Once completed contacted MSD who were massively helpful having had bad experience at 2 local specialist tuners.
First visit Stu & Kenny chipped and made it run really well in comparison to when it went in. Then after further mods, cams etc... took it in for live mapping very reasonable price, very helpful, recommend them without hesitation.
You live a long way away maybe give them a call first and see what impression you get.
If i can get a buyer for my saph i will defo take the escort that i am planning on to them.
