Default No Gears!!!

Hi peeps, I took my car out last night and did about 15 miles (addmitely, with a lead foot all the way), and i pulled up, switched off. Fine . Got back in 5 mins later, put it in first, pulled off about 5 ft and then felt a light fud from the gearbox area and all gears gone.

Any ideas? Clutch?, Gearbox?

Any info much appreciated as my car is stuck on the driveway being a melon .

Sorry, forgot to mention the fact that it is a Mondeo ST200 on a V plate.

Try and put it in reverse without using the clutch, if it crunches the box has probably shit itself, if it doesnt probably the clutch.

Thanx for that. Tried it, dosen`t crunch. Just wont go in without the clutch.

Anyone ever done a clutch on one of these?, for some reason me thinks it won`t be quite so simple.....

Ah........maybe its got a synchro on reverse then being a newer car.

Well.......if it wont go in gear without the clutch, that shows the clutch is working!

My money is on the box mate

Not a clue mate

I suppose there is still the slimmest of slim chances the clutch has gone, after all it takes no effort to spin the input shaft, but obviously a lot of effort to move the car.

Are you going to fit it yourself?

if it was clutch it would not go in regarless of pedal as it still being driven and box is offering some resistance as wont go in without clutch so id look at driveshafts cvs etc, does your speedo go up with it in say 2nd gear revving?

If the clutch plate has shat all its friction material then you wont get any drive on the input shaft with it in gear, it will be metal on metal, flywheel/pressure plate on the rivets on the clutch plate.

but does the speedo still move, also what i meant was that normally if the clutch has totally gone it should go into gear with out pressing it down as thiers nothing to release ie no drive so the box should go in to gear without it,my old vr6 did this and could put in gear with no clutch and rev it on the spot.if the speedo moves the box is being driven hence not clutch as its moving inside the box to drive it but if its not then yeah prob is clutch but as safechav said best to strip it out and see.

The speedo wont move if the diff has fallen apart. I know what you are saying about the clutch, i said the same thing hence why i told him to try and select a gear................and being as it wouldnt go in without the clutch i said i'd say the box was shot............
