if i had changed a gearbox ,would a gearbox by any means stop the starter from turning the car over,? cheers oh yeh even it was all bolted up rite

did the main shaft go in the flywheel alright what does the clucth pedal feel like also did you check your clut6ch on the new g/b

it was my old clutch wich was spot on ,as for the shaft ,the box looked bolted on good and tight,and also the starter has stoped turning the car it only spins

Did you connect the main starter cables up, i know it sounds dumb but its worth asking.

Well usually 3, one from the alternator, the thick one from the battery, and the small thin wire for the solenoid.

What car is it on? Most cars the starter is on the gearbox so i would say so!

Depends what you mean by stopping the starter starting?

it works but only spins does not start the car makes like a weeeeeeee noise and thats it

Fuck knows! Sounds like its not engaging then! Are they easy to whip back off on them? Or a bit of mashing with a hammer help

they more or less just pop out 3 bolts to the box

Whip it out and check to see if its engaging, im guessing its not.

The gear on the starter slides to engage witht he flywheel ring gear, check its not ceased or damaged!

Unbolt it but leave all the wiring connected and get someone to turn the ignition key you will soon know if it's engaging you will see the small wheel come forward and spin (really fucking fast
) if it dont come forward then your stater is fucked
.

you never give the proper technique for testing things.
Your meant to stick your finger in and check the gear spins strongly

Sounds like the solenoid is either goosed or there is a break i n the wire going to it, as said if its not engaging then you can replace just the solenoid
I paid £7 for a new one for me old S2
