Default S2 Gear box whine

Rite it whines when in second really badly only when you not accelerating,
also in 3rd and 4th but it not as loud, would it be an oil problem or has
the gear box had it? cheers for any help

Sounds like the bearings are on the way out. The box is whining because the slack is not being taken up as it would when accelerating hard. You could check the oil, but I suspect, even if it was low, you would only be prolonging the inevitable.

Bear in mind that a Diesel box is no stronger than a normal one, just has higher ratios. Depends on money, if you can afford it, you can get the boxes rebuilt using the MK5 bearings, as they are slightly beefier, but I think you have to change a lot of other internals as well, so probably not cost-effective. I know the Rapid-Fit bloke @ the Ford dealers I used to work in looked @ this method, would have cost over £1k in bits @ staff rate.

Or easier, just find another box and run that. Remember though, if the bearings have gone / are going, then the LSD diff probably ain't gonna be that healthy anyway.

Probably best to have a word with Paul @ North Yorks RS Spares. He probably has hundreds of them holding up the foundations in his place.

Or ask for finis number 1117975 @ your local Ford dealer. Expect price to be around £5-600.

3.82 ratio Escort Turbo gearbox, may need replacement release bearing finis 6847097. @ least there is a guarantee and if it breaks, Ford will pay to replace it.

fitted a diesel box still goes well cant fault it, dint see much difference in engine speed when cruisin at bout 70 was about 250 rpm lower at the most, and now i have chance to give the car some abuse lol i get to 90 and my boost drops to bout 2 psi, anyone got any clues? is it most likely to be the amal valve cos i was thinkin if it was the actuator surley it would hold boost at all?
